Sneezes vs. Coughs
I'm sorry I haven't been posting my field notes! I need to catch up. Here's a copy of my notes from day one- I'll post days 2, 3, 4, and 5 in a minute.
Monday, Nov. 8
Sat in clique 3- See map for details.
Across from: 8 gr. girl w/striped red and black hair (not layers- STRIPES, across horizontally) 1 purple contact & 1 zebra print contact, and painted on freckles.
Conversation:
Me- Hello.
Stripes- Hi.
-SILENCE-
Stripes- I’m gonna start saying ‘bless you’ when people cough. You know? And then they’ll be all like, ‘I didn’t sneeze’ and I’ll be like, ‘I know.’
Me- I guess that makes sense. When people sneeze they aren’t sick- when they cough they really need someone to say ‘bless you’.
Stripes- Yeah.
Me- Are your freckles real, or . . .
Stripes- No. I painted them on.
Me- Got it. I was thinking, “nobody has real freckles like that. . .”
Stripes- Nope.
Me- I like them.
Stripes- Thanks.
LUNCH PERIOD ENDS
Weird looks: None
Asked to move: Nope!
Conclusion: Some people like to look presentable. Others like to prove a point.
Resolve: Every time someone coughs, I’m going to say bless you.
